Safety Harness Recall
According to Associated Press, Hunter’s View Ltd. of Peoria, Illinois has recalled 500,000 safety harnesses that were sold with its tree stands because the straps can break, allowing the person to fall. The Fall Arrest Systems, manufactured in
China
, have a white label bearing model number 3333 and the year 2004. These harnesses were sold through hunting and sporting goods stores nationwide with Hunter’s View and Comfort Zone brand tree stands, starting in 2004. Call the company at 888-878-0440, weekdays
9am 5:30pm EDT
for a free replacement.
Another Successful Fishing
Derby
Both members and kids had a grand time filling their creels and strings. Photos, courtesy of Barry Robinson, of the successful fishermen and women are posted on the bulletin board, and will soon be on the Club website.
Committee Reports
Archery Rich Gagnon, Archery Chairman, notes that the May 14 Members’ Archery Clinic/Walk Through will begin at
10:00 am
. Participating members will be given a tour of the archery facilities and course, and will also have the opportunity to do some bow and arrow shooting at the practice range. Here’s your opportunity to rediscover the hidden Robin Hood in your soul. Equipment will be provided.
Improvements are being made in the archery locker downstairs in the clubhouse. Rich is doing some maintenance and tuning of the recurve bows and longbows stored in the locker. In the near future, access to the locker will be with swipe cards. This will allow club members to access the Mathews Genisis bows and provide some accountability for lost or damaged equipment.
For the Traditional Archery Shoot scheduled on August 21, members are respectfully requested not to use the
Trap
Range
during the hours of
7am
through
6pm
.
Notice: if you use the archery course for shooting cans with pellet or BB guns, please pick up after yourself. Do not shoot the archery targets with pellets or BB’s as they damage the paper faces and foam targets. Archery targets are to be shot at only with field tip arrows. Do not use broadheads (except for approved broadhead targets) or other projectiles on archery targets.
Grounds, Roads & Bridges Bill Lewis, Grounds Chairman, reports that Spring Clean Up efforts are ongoing, with several areas needing immediate attention.:
Members with log splitters are needed.
Members with knowledge/experience in building stone walls are needed.
Members with experience in felling trees with chainsaws are also needed.
Limited Members who need to work off their pledged hours, please contact Bill to lend a hand 1-978-952-6696. Full members with the above knowledge and skills are encouraged to pitch in as well. Many hands make work short.
Notice: There is a glass-fronted gun cabinet in the Archery Shed that is available for the taking. First come, first served.
Pistol Robert Alpert, Pistol Chairman, is pleased to offer a basic course in pistol on June 12, called Pistol 101, for members only. At this seminar you will learn about basic firearms safety, how to use the
Indoor
Pistol
Range
, and general pistol information. There will be no live firing during this course.
Armed Forces Day Dinner & Dance
President Harry S. Truman led the effort to establish a single holiday for citizens to come together and thank our military members for their patriotic service in support of our country. Armed forces day was created to replace separate Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force Days. This single-day celebration stemmed from the unification of the Armed Forces under one department the Department of Defense.
We at the Concord Rod & Gun Club wish to honor our fellow members and families with a special potluck dinner and dance, reminiscent of the USO dances of yesteryear. We have music from WWII,
Korea
,
Vietnam
, Desert Storm, and the Gulf War eras, as well as a sparkle ball to lend a festive atmosphere.
Join us on
Sunday, May 22, 2005
at
6:00 pm
for a potluck dinner and
7:00 pm
for a dance across time.
Bring a dish (or two) and join us in lifting a glass in salute to our heroes, both past and present. Call Kimberly Sullivan at 781-424-1800 if you would like to volunteer to decorate the hall and set up tables for the morning of the 22nd.
YeeHah!!!
CRGC Member, David Caccavaro from
Concord
stopped by the Club the other night and proudly showed off his winning photograph from the Florida Rodeo Championships. David, who is 62 years old, recently placed 16th in the Team Calf Roping Event. Congratulations David!
GOAL Fights for You
Once again, the Gun Owners’ Action League (GOAL) of
Massachusetts
has come to the aid of the Division of Fisheries and Wildlife, teaming up with the Mass. Conservation Alliance (MCA) and the Mass. Audubon Society to rescue funds that had been grabbed by our rapacious politicians. A smaller fund known as the Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Trust Fund was taken along with the Inland Fish and Game Fund a few years ago. The state imposes a “management” fee, and this particular fund was slapped with a 36% rate per year. GOAL worked with its allies to get Gov. Romney to waive fees for the trust fund, saving the Div. of Fisheries and Wildlife $300,000/year.
Join GOAL and let your dues fight for your hunting and fishing privileges. Application forms are at the bar. (Item excerpted from the May 05 Outdoor Message.)
U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance
The CR&GC is actively supporting the U.S. Sportsmen’s
Alliance
, a nationally focused watchdog and lobbying group for hunting and fishing rights. See how they work for you by checking out their website at: www.ussportsmen.org.
Smokers
Smokers at the Club are enjoined not to throw their cigarette butts off of the deck onto the ground as it is full of dry leaves and other combustible materials. A moment’s carelessness could burn the Club to a cinder.
Are You Moving?
Chapter 140, Sections 129B(11) and 141(1) of the Mass. State law requires holders of a Firearms Identification Card (FID) and/or a license to carry (LTC, pistol permit) to notify authorities of your change of address. You must notify, by certified mail, in writing and within 30 days, the authority who issued the card and/or license, the Police Chief in your new town of residence, and the Executive Director of the Criminal History Systems Board,
200 Arlington St., Suite 2200
,
Chelsea
, MA021250. Failure to do so is cause for revocation of the FID or LTC. (Item excerpted from the May 05 Outdoor Message.)
