Sell Out Crowd Enjoys Annual Game Dinner!

For those of you who couldn’t make it, or who could not secure a ticket, you missed a great feast and the excitement surrounding the raffles. Just to whet your appetites, here’s a partial menu of the dishes that were served: Sweet & Sour Pheasant; Venison Shish Kebab; Clam Chowder; Frogs Legs; Venison Teriyaki; Southern Fried Catfish; Deep-Fried Wild Turkey; Smoked Salmon; Venison Stuffed Mushrooms – you get the idea. Just delicious!

Following dinner, we had numerous raffle drawings. Jim Gallagher won the five-day bow hunt for deer and Jerry Gambino won the turkey hunt, both donated by the Full Fan Lodge of PA., the archery tackle from Reedy’s Archery of Middleboro, MA, was won by Del Ferranti, and Alan Carpenito won the beautiful quilt handmade and donated by Lillian Ferranti, Del ’s wife. Many other useful and whimsical prizes donated by other members were won by lucky raffle ticket buyers.

Many thanks to Billy Jarmo for organizing this year’s Game Dinner and to Bob Fenochetti and his entire kitchen and grill crew for the great meal, and to the pleasant young ladies, daughters of Tim Phelan, Lawton Read , and Steve Ferranti, who sold the raffle tickets and bussed the tables, and to Adrian Munoz-Bennett and the serving table crew who helped feed the ravenous guests.

Deep Sea Fishing Trip

Here’s a chance for you old and new salts to go down to the sea and try your hand at landing some big ones.  Joe Brooks is sponsoring a deep sea fishing trip, Saturday April 29th.  The bus leaves at 6am sharp; returns at 6pm. Space is limited to 45. Sign up at Club. Cost is $60.00 for the bus and boat trips. You can rent a rod for the day for $5.00. Bring your own lunch.

Antler Sheds and Taxidermy Show

On May 21st from 12pm to 5pm there will be an antler sheds and taxidermy show in the Club’s main hall.  If you would like to display a unique set of antlers that you have found or a special mount that you have, please contact Kim Sullivan for the exhibitor details.  The show is anticipated to have some of the best sheds around, especially with the help of the Thursday night archers. Mounts are not restricted to deer alone this year, as Kim will be bringing her pheasant that she shot in Nebraska last year and we hear tell there will be a boar shot by Bob Irwin on the Ted Nugent preserve and a huge turkey shot by Rachael Ferranti (daughter of Steve Ferranti) when she was 14 years old. We plan on having professional taxidermists bring some of their displays to show you what can be done with the birds in your freezer or that future big buck.  There will be a light meal of game served during the show.  A sign up sheet will be posted in the bar for participation and wall space. Kim may be reached at 781-424-1800, crgcsecretary@yahoo.com

Bar Floor AND Trap Area Wall Completed!

Many thanks to member Bob Joyce of Chelmsford and his Allied Paving work crew for the beautiful and professional work they’ve done in completing the new bar room floor and the handsome retaining wall at the trap field. Bob’s generosity and the hard work of his crew are greatly appreciated.  The floor is bright and level and a grand improvement over the former drab and worn surface.  The stone wall needs to be seen to be appreciated. Nice work and many thanks. Kudos also to Bruce Harvey and Bill Lewis for their project management efforts.

Committee Reports

The Club Still Needs More Drivers !!– We still have three openings for Committee Chairpersons for 2006: Archery; Maintenance; and Rentals. Anyone interested in helping out the

Club by managing the events and projects that fall under these functions, please contact President, Lawton Read at 978-264-4869, or via e-mail at: Lawton.Read@Verizon.net.

Archery – Joe Facenda is still looking for volunteers to help out before, during, and after the Bay State Archers 3-D archery shoot that we’re hosting on Sunday, April 2nd, from 6am to 2pm .

We still need more volunteers to pull this event off. So, on Saturday, April 1, starting at 7:00 am or so, we’ll need your help to set out the targets. Joe will have the course all laid-out. You’ll just need to set out the targets. This should take only a couple of hours to complete. Help will also be needed in the kitchen to complete some pre-cooking of bacon, home fries, etc.

On Sunday, for the actual shoot, your help will be needed primarily in the kitchen for breakfast and lunch crews. We start about 6:00 am . Also the volunteers will be needed again about 2:00 pm to pick up the course and targets. This chore is made easier if someone has an ATV and would bring it for use on both days.

Anyone who is interested in helping can contact Joe at (781) 899-7824 or at ejfacenda@verizon.com. Joe will also post a sign-up sheet on the Archery Bulletin Board at the club. This is a good opportunity for new members to get some of their work time requirements in and to meet fellow archers.

Fish & Pond – Chairman Lukas Rounds notes two upcoming and anticipated fishing events are scheduled: Members’ Fishing Day, April 23rd at 10:00 am ; Bing Bartolomeo Kids’ Fishing Derby, April 30th at 10:00 .  Rumors have it that the Loch Ness Monster was sighted under the ice of our pond,  but this sighting could not be confirmed.

Kitchen – Brad Stetson, Steward, emphasizes that HELP is the main ingredient for successful breakfast, lunch, or dinner events.  The number of members and guests who enjoy them support the Club’s future.  Call Brad at 978-369-8926 if you can help at any Club function.

Pistol – Thanks to Chairman, Robert Alpert  for replacing two of the overhead shooting station lights so we can better see when reloading our magazines and counting our targets. Thanks also to George Checkowski for organizing the Club Championship 900 Shoot on March 11th. More pistol-specific events are in the works. Watch the Events Calendar.

Trap – Chairman, Vinnie Bartolomeo points out that we will be starting regular shooting hours on Sundays, beginning in April. The Trap Range Officer list will be posted shortly.  Sunday shooting times are from 1 to 4pm. Vinnie has scheduled a clean up and repair party for April 8th. Contact Vinnie via e-mail at Bartolomeo@verizon.net to volunteer to help, or to sign up for one of the three teams.

Delegates’ Reports

Middlesex County Sportsmen’s League – Delegate Barry Robinson reminds us (again) to mark your calendars for the MCSL’s Thursday, March 30th meeting at our Club. The main topic of discussion will be “Beavers in Massachusetts : presented by Colleen Olfenbuttel, Wildlife Biologist, Furbearer Project Leader of Mass. Wildlife. The meeting begins at 7:30pm and is open to the general public as well as Club members

                                                Mass. Wildlife

Massachusetts Junior Conservation Camp – Eileen Facenda is pleased to report that we have two campers that will attend the Massachusetts Junior Conservation Camp being held August 6-18, 2006 . Those young folk are: Robert Wilkinson, son of member Dave Wilkinson, and Ryan Brooks, son of member Joe Brooks.
