We also have 7 new prospective members from the Event, and everyone had a great time! The children were even shooting out at the outdoor ranges during the rain.

I'd like to thank the following people who made the event a success:

Joe Facenda Dick
Bregoli Kim Sullivan

Please check out the photo gallery on our web-site for the pictures from the Event, they are a HOOT! Archery Clinic Photos

I hope we do this again soon, it was so rewarding seeing the new archers enjoying our facility.

Message from the Secretary

June is finally here! The family outing is coming up quickly. Plans are pretty much finalized. We are still looking for volunteers to help out. Please contact Mike Barton or sign up on one of the sheets on the club bulletin board. Don't forget we need some cakes for the cake walk. If you are planning on bringing a cake please contact Corinne Kinsman at 978 369-1379. She would like to know in advance how many cakes we can count on. Look forward to seeing you on June 21st. This event is one that you won't want to miss. Invite your family and friends to an old fashioned family outing.

Enclosed with this newsletter are our annual raffle tickets. This year we are planning to have the drawing at our Clambake in September. Please try to sell as many tickets as possible. This is a big fundraiser for the club. Do your best to sell some!

An updated calendar of events is attached. There are a few changes.

ARCHERY: We welcome Joe Facenda as our new Archery Chairman. Work continues to fix up the walk-through course. The 20 yard practice range has been repaired. Don't forget to sign up to help out at the outing. Come up on Thursday evenings to shoot the course.

INDOOR RANGE: Effective June 1st the range will switch to a key card entry system only. If you haven't taken your walk-through contact Robert Alpert or Michael Barton.

MONTHLY RAFFLE: Jim Condon's name was called for the monthly drawing. He was not in attendance.

DEEP SEA FISHING TRIP: Sign up sheet is on the bulletin board. You can still sign up. We still need a few more people in order to have a private boat. If you plan on going please contact Mike Barton by June 15th.

IRON MAN CONTEST: A record number of 35 participated this year. . Quite a few members were at the evening steak dinner. The winner this year was Peter Dallaire.

ADOPT A BOW PROGRAM: Quite a few members have donated equipment that we have found new temporary homes for. As explained last month, this is a program designed to find new homes for old/unused archery equipment. Members and Members Families new to the sport of archery, can come to the Club and "Adopt" a bow that fits them properly. This should help newcomers to archery get into the sport for a reasonable price, and encourage the use of the Club and our facilities.

Anyone with old archery equipment, or archery equipment not being used, should bring it up to the Club. You can leave the equipment in the Lounge downstairs. We will go through the equipment, check it and repair it if necessary, and save it for one of our up-and-coming "Clinic / Fun Shoots". There we will "fit" the equipment to the prospective recipients. They will in turn keep and maintain the bow in there possession until they do not need it anymore, and then will return it to the Club to "Adopt" it to another individual.

If you do not have any old equipment, and would like to participate in this program, you can send in donations for the "Adopt a Bow" program, and we will buy equipment for the Club to use during the Clinics / Fun Shoots in your name. Checks should be made out to the Concord Rod & Gun Club, with the words "Adopt a Bow Program" written somewhere on the check.

THANK YOU to the RAFFLE COMMITTEE. The club would like to thank Roger Doherty for printing our annual raffle tickets. As you know this is a big fundraiser for the club and it really helps to get the tickets printed for no charge My personal thanks to Mike Barton, Bruce Harvey, Joe Facenda and Frank Gill who helped me cut, count and staple the tickets. This was truly a team effort. Thanks!

CONDOLENCES: The club membership sends its sincere condolences to Paul and James Cooney. whose brother passed away. Our thoughts are with you and your family.

COUNCIL ON AGING LUNCHEON: Once again this year Marge Stetson will be coordinating a Concord Council on Aging luncheon. It will be on Wednesday, July 23rd. If you are a club senior and would like to attend contact Marge Stetson. If anyone would like to help prepare or serve the meal I'm sure Marge would like to hear from you.

NEW EVENT: We are pleased to announce that the club will be having a Traditional Archery Fun Shoot and Buffet Brunch on August 10th. There are only a handful of these events in the New England area and they are very popular. As I'm sure you know, traditional archery is shooting with a longbow, recurve or self bow. Come by and see what it's all about. We invite all members to the brunch even if you don't plan on shooting. This event will be quite unique. A flyer is attached with more details.

If you can help out in any way please contact Joe Facenda at 781 899-7824 or facenda@earthlink.net.

Website

The club website is 16 months old, and I just wanted to talk about some features of the site that many members haven't discovered yet as well as a new feature.

The new feature is mailing lists for different club related activities. I have set up the following mailing lists so far; Action pistol, Archery, Bullseye Pistol, Fishing, For Sale/Wanted, General Mailings, Meetings, Movie Night, Newsletters, Special Events and Trap. As different club activities appear, we will add mailing lists for those (for example Cribbage). The purpose of the mailing list is three fold, first it allows people to receive emails in only the area of interest they choose. Secondly, it makes it so we can create very specific email categories that some people might consider junk mail while others would consider helpful. Lastly, I won't feel so guilty when I send out broadcast email messages, since people can choose to receive or not receive emails from different mailing lists.

By default, everyone is subscribed to all the mailing lists except for the Movie Night list. To add or remove yourself from the mailing lists, go to the members page on the website and click on the SET PREFERENCES link on the left of the page. In the middle of the page there is a heading called mailing lists. You should check the lists you want to receive mail from, and uncheck the lists you do not want to receive mail from. When you're done selecting, hit the SET MAILING LIST button. The screen will redraw and its all set.

While we're on that page, there are 2 other little known features that have been there since day one.

The TURN ON AUTO LOG-IN link makes it so you do not have to enter your username and password each time you go to the site from that machine. If you use more then one machine to access the site, you will have to turn it on for each machine you use. But be careful, you don't want to turn this feature on when using public computers (schools, libraries, shared computers at work) because then anyone can gain access to the protected pages of the club website. To disable the feature, click on the TURN OFF AUTO LOG-IN link.

The STARTING PAGE popup allows you to set which page the website goes to after you log-in (or auto log-in). For most members it is set to either the home page or the members page. Just select which page from the popup and the next time you log on to the site, you will be brought to that page automatically.

I get a lot of requests to change members address, phone #'s or email address. You can change this information by yourself on the site. On the members page, click EDIT PERSONAL INFORMATION. On this page you can change your personal info, including your username and password. In addition, if you change your info on this page, the Financial Secretary will receive an email so he can update the club database and keep that up to date.

The most requests I get come from people that forget their username or password. That too can be gotten from the site automatically and immediately. On the log-in page click on the REQUEST ACCOUNT INFORMATION link. From there you can type in your username or email address. You should receive an email with your username and password within a minute.

One last item I want to address is that we are missing email addresses from many members. I know some of you do not have email access and that's ok. For those of you who do have email addresses, email is the most efficient way to convey important club information to our club members. We save a lot of money and time (ask our Secretary) by having people receive the newsletter electronically. And this last month we made it even easier to receive the newsletter, right in the email itself. We also have a pdf version of the newsletter that will print exactly like the original newsletter. If you would like to switch and receive the newsletter electronically, send your email address to the Financial Secretary (Bruce Harvey), or if you still want to receive your email via snail mail you can still add your email address on the web site and this will allow you to receive important club information.
