Note from the Secretary

Happy New Year!

January is one of my favorite months! This is the month when we start setting up our calendar for the year. There are a lot of events being planned and everyone's enthusiasm is contagious. Mike Barton, our new Vice President has a lot of new ideas for the upcoming year.

At the beginning of each year quite a few people like to start out by setting New Years Resolutions. Some we keep some we don't. For the Year 2003 wouldn't it be nice to try to set a few resolutions involving the Concord Rod and Gun Club. How about attending a dinner! Sponsoring a new member! Volunteering some of your time! Attending a monthly meeting!

Get a child involved in an outdoor sport. The look on a child's face when they catch a fish is something that can only make you smile. The future of hunting and fishing depends on getting children involved.

Our club has so much to offer. Keep your eye on the calendar of events. It will be a busy year.

Eileen

LOUNGE UPDATE

HAVE YOU SEEN THE NEW LOUNGE!

The new 61" HDTV has been purchased and installed.

We now have DVD, VCR and Laser Disc equipment. There are directions for operating all the equipment. Please be sure to read and understand it before using it.

We are in the process of purchasing new furniture.

There is not enough room in this newsletter to properly thank everyone who has helped with this project. What a team effort.

Thank you to Mike Barton for organizing the raffle to purchase the HDTV and for his technical expertise to purchase and install the equipment.

Thank you to the electricians, carpenters and heating specialists who put in many hours of their time.

Thank you to all the members who donated their time and special skills to make our new lounge a reality.

Come up and see it - I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

2003 DUES: REMINDER — DON'T FORGET TO PAY YOUR DUES!!!!

Dear Fellow Member,

Once again it is that time of the year when the dues notices are sent. This year we thought we would add a new dimension to the process.

Many members do not realize that only about half of the club's yearly expenses are met by the collection of dues. The rest of the required funds are derived from member fund raising efforts such as raffles, outings etc. Also members donating their time and expertise usually accomplish maintenance and improvement of the club facilities. A recent case in point would be the newly refurbished members lounge. Individual members donated the extensive skills, from carpentry to electrical, required for this project. The new television was paid for by a raffle. The result is a member's lounge of which we can be proud. There are, however, limits as to what the club can accomplish using theses methods.

The club continues to move forward. Plans are being formulated for the refurbishment and modernization starting with the basement area. Ranges need to be updated. New facilities added. This is going to cost money. We are asking those who would wish to make further monetary contributions to the club to do so as to expedite the modernization process.

The club is very aware that many of its members are stretched thin in our modern hectic lives and do not have the time to donate time and skills. An added donation would be an appropriate gesture for those who find themselves in this situation. There are also those who are financially able and willing to donate to the club and some have been doing so. We'd like to encourage the rest.

A few years ago a program was instituted whereby "Life Members"; who do not pay dues, were asked if they would like to, on a strictly volunteer basis, make a contribution in lieu of dues. The results have been most gratifying and the donor's names are listed on the club bulletin board.

If you would like to target your donation you may do so. Listed are some areas that you may specify. Archery, Trap, Pistol, Pond, Members Lounge, In Memory of.

Looking forward to hearing from you and also seeing you at the club.

Very truly,

Board of Governors
