Message from the Secretary
We have passed the halfway mark for the year on our events calendar. Those members who have participated so far this year have had a chance to meet some new members, have a lot of fun and enjoy some fantastic food. We still have quite a few events planned for the last half of the year. We will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of our club house and draw the lucky winners for our annual raffle on September 20th. It will be a great event to close out the summer and start to focus our thoughts towards the hunting season. I would also like to encourage the membership to attend the monthly meetings. Over the next few months we will be discussing some important issues. Find out first hand what's going on! Eileen |
We would like to thank everyone who has made an effort to purchase or sell their raffle tickets. Sales are down from last year so we would like to encourage those who have not bought or sold their tickets to make that extra effort. In this small way you are contributing to keeping your Club active and up to date. Concord Rod and Gun Club 1st Prize $500 2nd Prize $300 3rd Prize $100 4th Prize $50 5th Prize $50 When you sell (or buy) your tickets please mail your checks along with the name/address portion of the tickets to: Concord Rod and Gun Club Inc. All checks should be made payable to: Concord Rod and Gun Club Inc. |

THERE'S BEEN A CHANGE IN PLANS
JOIN THE CELEBRATION SEPTEMBER 20, 2003 We are going to have a 50th anniversary party dinner for the Clubhouse, instead of the scheduled Clambake. We will be serving a fried Turkey Dinner. We are making these changes due to the current high cost of shellfish, and lack of attendance from the membership at dinner events lately. Don't forget to send in your raffle tickets for this Event! Only ten percent of the Club's membership has bought tickets so far. WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT...Please attend this Event, purchase some raffle tickets, and show your interest in the Club's activities |

Archery Report - by Joe Facenda
As you all are aware, Concord Rod and Gun hosted its first traditional archery 3-D shoot Sunday August 10th. And it was a very successful event. The preliminary figures indicate we had 60 or so shooters and after deducting expenses earned about $839.00 (that's better than either of the two Bay State Archers shoots held earlier this year). There were three main factors for this excellent showing: 1) several new members working off their 10 hour work requirement (which really helped in the setup, meal prep and breakdown of the course) and then bringing their families around to shoot the course 2) the participation of the traditional archers here at the club, who not only worked to set up the shoot but also paid the entry fees to shoot on Sunday and lastly but not least, Chef Barton and his crew who prepared a really extravagant buffet breakfast. All you non-archers who passed-up breakfast, missed out on something really fine. All who did attend seemed to enjoy the course, which featured a running antelope target, shooting from a turkey blind, trap clays posted at the practice butts, and two canoe shots. And of course the buffet drew raves for its variety which included waffles, pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, home-fries and fruit cup, all for $5.00. I would like to thank the following people who helped making this event happen. The bad thing about listing everyone is that you often forget somebody and if I do please let me know:
Something to consider: This was a profitable event. It was well attended by club members. Those who volunteered to help showed up and helped. The feed back was very positive. Outsiders were impressed by every facet of the shoot, and stated that as word got out, the next time we hold a shoot, even more of the traditional shooting public will come. The question to ponder is: "Should we drop out of Bay State and hold two traditional shoots each year?". This should and WILL be a point to discuss prior to our September Bay State meeting to plan the 2004 schedule. |

| GROUNDS: The upkeep of our grounds is ongoing. Bill Lewis can always use your help.. If you have a chipper, bob cat, dump truck or chain saws and would be willing to help out please contact Bill at 978-952-6696. If anyone has some time please try to do some grass cutting. COUNCIL ON AGING LUNCHEON: Marge Stetson reports that the Council on Aging Luncheon went well. Helping her were Art, Cheryl and Christina Stetson, Bill Lewis, Bruce and Alice Harvey, Del Ferranti, Nelson Powers and George Checkowski. About 50 luncheons were served.. The french bread was a real hit along with the fresh baked cookies. The Club thanks Marge for making an effort to coordinate this luncheon for the Concord seniors. DEEP SEA FISHING TRIP: The day turned out great. Not too many fish were caught but everyone had a great time. SPECIAL MESSAGE FOR LIMITED MEMBERS If you have recently joined the club and are looking for ways to fulfill your ten-hour work requirement, listed below are some contacts who may be able to provide some chores or work that needs to be done on the grounds or at an upcoming event. | Pistol Range
If your key card does not work on the range and you have taken the walkthrough, please contact Robert Alpert at robert@ralpert.com or 508-651-1153. There are some keycards that are having problems with the reader on the range. Reminder, no high power loads should be used on the range. Using high power loads can cause damage to the backstop and is a safety hazard if the rounds should ricochet back. We are looking for shooters to join the pistol team. Last year we had 2 teams, this year we are trying to put a third team together. This is a 22 caliber league that shoots in the Nashoba Valley Pistol League. We travel to Concord, Maynard, Westford, Stonybrook and Tyngsboro. You do not need to be an experienced shooter to shoot on the team. If you don't have a pistol, you can borrow from the team. Please contact Robert Alpert at robert@ralpert.com or 508-651-1153 for more info. |
