If you know how to fish and can help out at the Kid’s Fishing Derby, the YAC needs YOU! Once again CR&GC will be welcoming Boy Scouts and their families from Pack 222, the only special-needs Cub Scout pack in MA. We try to provide one-on-one assistance to each scout and their parent (who will be present at all times). Those who have helped out in the past have found it very rewarding. If you can contribute a couple hours beginning at
9:30 am
please call
Deb Stein
at 617-308-1776, deb@debstein.com .
I Pledge Allegiance

Trap Area Wall Completed!
Many thanks to member Bob Joyce of
Chelmsford
and his Allied Paving work crew for the beautiful and professional work they’ve done on the handsome retaining wall at the trap field. Bob’s generosity and the hard work of his crew are greatly appreciated. The stone wall needs to be seen to be appreciated. Nice work and many thanks.
Antler Sheds and Taxidermy Show
Mark your calendars! This is shaping up to be The Event of the season at CRGC! Join your fellow hunters on May 21st from
12pm
to
5pm
for the antler shed and taxidermy exhibit in the Club’s main hall. There is still wall space available, so if you would like to display a unique set of antlers that you have found or a special mount that you have, please contact
Kim Sullivan
for details. This show is anticipated to have some of the best sheds around, especially with the help of the Thursday night archers.
Scorers from the Northeast Big Bucks Club (NBBC) will be on hand to score any rack or mount for a fee of $25. This fee entitles you to the score, a one year membership to NBBC and a subscription to their magazine published 6 times a year. There will be raffles, prizes and lots of stories! During the show there will be a game chili cook-off. A sign up sheet will be posted in the bar for participation and wall space. Kim may be reached at 781-424-1800, crgcsecretary@yahoo.com
Archery
CRGC hosted a Bay State Archers 3-D Shoot on April 2nd and it turned out to be one of the best that we have had in several years. The weather on both the set-up day and the shoot day was just what we needed for the first time in awhile. Enough help volunteered to set a record time in putting out the targets and the kitchen crew was not far behind with the pre-cook. All preliminary work was completed on Sat. by
8:30 am
.
On Sunday, 110 participants registered to shoot. The kitchen served up a great breakfast and followed up with an equally good lunch. The pulling of the course was quick and the clean-up of the club and kitchen went as fast, due again to those who took the time to help. According to my calculations, which are not final, the shoot netted about $1,100.00 for the day. That makes the work and effort extended by everyone really satisfying.
I would like to thank the following for their help. It’s little unusual but quite pleasurable to have such a large number of people to thank for their help. In no particular order, thanks to the following: Jim O’Donnell,
Jim Jackman
, Jim Gallagher,
Del Ferranti
, Brad Stetson, Frank Gill, Mike and Mev Barton, Eileen Facenda, Fred Skerry,
Rich Gagnon
, Lucas Rounds, Richard Irwin, Paul LaFleche, Steve Brown, Tricia Gambino,
and Garo and Harry Papazian.
Work Party Really Cleaned Up!
The spring work party organized by Bill Lewis for April 8th really shaped the place up. There was plenty of raking, brush cutting and hauling to meet all of the limited members’ work requirements.
Steward
Brad Stetson, Steward, emphasizes that HELP is the main ingredient for successful breakfast, lunch, or dinner events. The number of members and guests who enjoy them support the Club’s future. Call Brad at 978-369-8926 if you can help at any Club function.
Middlesex
County
Sportsmen’s League (MCSL)
Delegate Barry Robinson reports that the MCSL’s presentation on “Beavers in
Massachusetts
” on March 30th was very well received by those in attendance. For those that could not make the meeting, Colleen Olfenbuttel, Wildlife Biologist, Furbearer Project Leader of Mass. Wildlife discussed state-wide beaver issues and the procedures and laws to deal with those pesky critters that live in our own backyards.
