According to Associated Press, Hunter’s View Ltd. of Peoria, Illinois has recalled 500,000 safety harnesses that were sold with its tree stands because the straps can break, allowing the person to fall. The Fall Arrest Systems, manufactured in

Pistol
Range
Robert Alpert noted that work on the pistol range floor has been completed, with the first coat of primer having been put down. Our thanks go to Robert Alpert, Artty Kinsman, and Lawton Read for their hard work in a confined space to lay down the floor and secure it. A final coat of flat black will be applied to focus shooters’ eyes onto the targets. It is hoped that this will help eliminate errant shots into the floor, ceiling, and walls.
Robert Alpert, Alan Carpenito, Steve Totingham, Lawton Read, and Artty Kinsman worked to reposition and re-weld the backstop on
Sunday April 10, 2005
from
8am
to
4 pm
. Our thanks to Robert and Alan and their hardy crew for taking on this difficult job and making the range safer.
Work is being planned to make the filtration/ventilation system more efficient at clearing the air. The downrange ceiling will also be refurbished and a clean-up crew will be needed to remove the debris.
Limited Members, call Robert Alpert @ 508-651-1153 to help out and fulfill your work hours requirement.
Archery Rich Gagnon, Archery Chairman, reports that the
Bay
State
Archers’ 3-D shoot on April 3 went quite well considering the wet weather forecasts for that day and the fact that another shoot in
Andover
was competing for archers. Despite the local meteorologists’ best efforts to discourage us, the weather cooperated and 53 archers signed up to shoot.
Our thanks to those who helped set up and tear down the course -- Kevin Fadden, Tim Kilroy, Lawton Reed and Joe Facenda worked tirelessly on Saturday morning through heavy rain to get 30, 3-D targets out and set up throughout the club property. After the shoot was over on Sunday afternoon, Joe, Tim and
Lawton
were back along with Steve Totingham, Richard Malloy, Peter Malloy and Lukas Rounds to help make the job of putting everything away much easier.
Our Steward, Charlie Atherton, had the kitchen cooking and was helped by John Tovrov, and Corrine and Artty Kinsman to keep the hungry archers fed with breakfast and lunch. Brad Stetson was there all day helping with the kitchen and taking down the course and general moral support, while George Checkowski helped on Friday morning clearing the trail and shooting lanes.
Special thanks go out to Joe and Eileen Facenda. Eileen ran the registration table all day and Joe worked with Rich on Friday to help him lay out a good course in spite of the flooding and mud caused by the recent wet weather. Both provided Rich with their experience and advice to help put on a good shoot. Feedback from the archers who shot the course was excellent and much of the credit goes to Joe and Eileen.
We had better attendance from our Club members than usual, with at least 10 members of the Concord Rod and Gun Club signing up and shooting the course. We hope that this is the start of a growing trend. The Bay State Archers’ shoots are fun for all who attend, but it is a little more gratifying when we see our own members go out and enjoy the course.
Between the registration table and the kitchen, were able to take in close to $400 dollars for the Club. Thank you all for your support.
Delegates’ Reports
Barry Robinson, delegate to the Middlesex County League of Sportsmen’s Clubs (MLSC), was pleased to report an excellent turnout of 25 people attending the meeting and presentation that took place at the Concord Rod & Gun Club on Thursday, March 28, 2005. Massachusetts
.
MLSC meetings take place the last Thursday of the month and rotate from sportsmen’s club to club to give different memberships the opportunity to hear these wildlife experts and representatives of sportsmen throughout the Commonwealth. The next meeting on April 28, 2005 will be held at the Woodville Rod & Gun Club, 225 Wood Street, Woodville, MA 01784 (near Hopkinton); 508-435-4148; www.woodvillerodandgun.com.
Kim Sullivan, delegate to Mass. Wildlife, mentioned the upland game bird survey she had sent via e-mail and urged recipients to fill it out and return it to Mass. Wildlife.
Eileen Facenda, delegate for the Mass. Junior Conservation Camp, was pleased to announce that the Club has sponsored four (4) applicants to attend this summer.
