MASSACHUSETTS JUNIOR
CONSERVATION CAMP: Currently the camp is on hold because a location for the
camp is uncertain. I will keep you
posted as more details become available.
The dates are still from July 28 to August 9, 2002. This is a great educational program for
children between the ages of 13 and 17.
As you know, the club will sponsor two children. If you would like your child to be
considered to attend please contact Eileen Facenda for an application form. (781-899-7824) RAFFLE: Kerry Heckley’s
name was drawn at the March Monthly Meeting. He was not in attendance. The raffle
continues. CRIBBAGE TOURNAMENT:
The 2002 Cribbage Tournament at the
Club came to a close on the 22nd of March. We had a total of 17 players entered in
the tournament. The Friday evenings
were very enjoyable with lively play at all tables. The winner after 10 grueling weeks of
competition was Linda Bregoli with 58 points – congratulations to
Linda! There were some other notable outcomes from the
tournament – Robert Alpert came up with the most 19’s with a whopping 34 and
Dick Bregoli had a “marvelous” night on March 1st, when after 9
tiring games, he came up empty, no points, zero. Trust me, that’s not easy to do – he
blames it on the poor partners he had that night. We also played a one-night match against the Musketaquid
Sportsman’s Club on March 17th for bragging rights. The top four players from each Club
played against each other to see which foursome would prevail. Unfortunately,
the Concord Rod & Gun Club lost by one point. We hope to make this an annual event,
with a Cup being held by the winner for that year – for now, the Cup can be
viewed sitting on the Musketaquid Club’s mantel over their fireplace. Wait ‘til next
year! Thanks to all who participated
and see you at the Cribbage Dinner and awards dinner on April 13th at
the Club – 7PM.
TRAP NEWS: Trap shooting begins this month with
weekly hours on Sundays from 1 to 4 PM.
All shooters, whether seasoned or novice, are welcome to come and enjoy
an afternoon of shooting at the Club.
The Club’s two teams in the
Greater Lowell Trap League will begin their 22nd season on the
9th and 10th of April. Good luck to both teams as they compete
in their respective divisions. WILD BOAR HUNT: Once again this year a group of
members will be making a trip to Hillside Guide Service in Aurora, Maine for a
weekend wild boar hunt. This will
take place on the 26th, 27th and 28th of
July. Anyone interested can contact
either Vin Bartolomeo at 978-369-2428 or Dick Bregoli at 978-256-2715 for
further details.
MEMBER’S
FISHING DAY BREAKFAST
: Breakfast will be served between 7:30
and 9:30 a.m. It’s a great way to
get some energy to reel in the “big
ones”. Come up and enjoy.
DELEGATES
REPORT
: Did you know the Middlesex County League
has been going strong since 1926. Raffle tickets are available for
the Middlesex County League annual fundraiser. The raffle is for a $1,000 shopping
spree at the Kittery Trading Post.
For tickets check at the club or contact Irene Hayes. MassWildlife reports a total of
9829 white-tailed deer taken by licensed hunters during the combined 2001
seasons. By season the total breaks
down to 4 deer taken during the special season for paraplegic sportsmen, 2914
taken by archers, 6057 taken during the shotgun season and 854 taken during the
muzzleloading season. The kill
during both the archery and muzzleloading seasons was up over last year while
the figures for the shotgun season were down. CORNED BEEF
AND CABBAGE DINNER
: This was a fun night. Thanks to Jim O’Donnell and his crew for
preparing the meal. There was too
much food as always but everyone did their best to devour
it. Check out the pictures. TOUR OF
CLUB BOUNDARIES: Bill Lewis is planning a tour of club boundaries, roads,
bridges, archery and pond. A
sign-up sheet will be posted as soon as a date is
resolved. IRONMAN: This year the Ironman shoot will be on May 18th. Set this date aside on your
calendar. More details will be
available in next month’s newsletter and on the club bulletin
board. ARCHERY: Our next 3-D shoot will be on June 23rd. Set up on June 22nd. Please contact Jim Jackman if you can
help out. SUMMER
OUTING: This year the outing will be on July
20th. MARK YOUR CALENDAR.!!!! If anyone has a new idea to add a different event this
year please contact Del Ferranti.
This is the first time Del has run this event and I’m sure any help he
can get would be greatly appreciated.
It’s never too early to start planning. This was a fun time last year so plan
ahead and try to attend. Invite
your friends and relatives. This year we have decided to
bring back our annual raffle. Lenny
Palma and Carmine Lionetta have volunteered to help with this event. There will be cash prizes and you will
receive some tickets by mail shortly.
Your Club needs your help selling tickets. More tickets will be available at the
club. If you can sell a few books
and buy a few books yourself it would really help to make this raffle
successful. Do your best to support
the Club. The drawing will be at
the summer outing. SPECIAL NOTICE - CONCORD ROD AND GUN CLUB - HOUSE RULES The Board of Governors have made
a change to our House Rules. Item
#6 will be added to the first section USE OF CLUB. Item # 6 will
read: 6. Members will be allowed to hunt on the Club property during open seasons. Members will NOT be allowed to have guests participate in hunting on the Club property. Caution must be exercised as to direction of fire. PISTOL/INDOOR RANGE: The winter
Pistol League ended this week with Concord B in 3rd place with a record of 14-7
and an average of 1304.48 and Concord A in 4th place with a record of 13-8 and
an average of 1304.14. Both teams had a great season. Last months centerfire shoot had
a good turnout. In addition to the regular match we had a Poker Shoot where we
shot at targets with 52 cards on it. The best poker hand won. Vin Bartolomeo won
$9 with 4 Jacks. Next centerfire
match is April 21st at 10:30 a.m. The range has a new backdrop of
3/4" rubber which will add to the safety of the range. I'd like to thank Ned Berube for
his help in installing the backdrop. It took hours of planning, cutting, heavy
lifting and fastening, but it was well worth it. Thanks Ned.
For those members who are using
the club targets, please remember to pay for the targets that you use. We have lost money this month and if
this continues we will be unable to supply targets in the future.
PISTOL
CHAMPIONSHIP
: The Club 22 caliber pistol championship
will be held on April 27th starting at 9 a.m. Details will be posted at the club along
with a time schedule so each shooter can pick their time to shoot. If there are any questions call George
Checkowski at 508-263-8052. Each
shooter must supply their own pistol and ammunition (90
rounds). Web Site: You should have received a card with your Username and Password to the Club web site. To log in, go to www.concordrodandgun.org and click on
the Members Page or Members Log-In link at the top of the page
under the Club logo. You will be prompted for your username and password.
Enter them and click the Submit button. Your first time logging in you will be
brought a welcome page that will tell you what to do. At this page click on the
EDIT link and you will be brought to the Personal Information page. On
this page please verify that your personal information is correct. Please enter
your email address, as this is the only way for the club to administer your
account. Also, for security purposes, change your
password. If at any time you forget your password or username you
can go to the log-in page and click the Request Account Information link.
There you can enter your email address or username and your account information
will be emailed to you immediately. For those who are good at forgetting their usernames and
password, you can set an option that will automatically log you in. Click on the
Set Preferences link on the Members Page and click the Turn On Auto
Log-in link and the next time you log in (from that machine) it will
remember you. Remember, only members can view the information in the
Members Page. Without the proper username and password you will not be allowed
into these pages. Currently we have a Members Directory, a Members Business
Directory where you can advertise your business, a Classified Ads section where
you can post items for sale or items wanted. We also have the newsletters posted
on that page. We have the ability to broadcast messages to all members
who have entered their email addresses. We will use this for club or sport
related messages only. We will set this up so that all board members and
committee chairpersons will have the ability to send a broadcast message. If you
would like a message sent, contact me, a board member or chairperson.
We will be setting up a General Links page. Users will be
able to ad any relevant club or sport related links to this page automatically.
When this is set up, please only enter links that are club related.
Check the preference page every once in a while, I have a
list of additional features that I will be adding as time goes on.
I hope you find the web site
useful. Please email me with any suggestions that you feel will make the web
site a better experience for all. Please report any problems to me at webmaster@concordrodandgun.org - Robert Alpert
